Cartierul Solar, Romania’s first residential compound equipped with photovoltaic panels, will be built in Bucharest and will include over 1,000 apartments.

The project, developed by Ad Astra Partners, will require a total investment of 45 million euro, and will be located near Gros Square in southern Bucharest. The 1,800 solar panels to be placed on the buildings’ roofs will produce over 600 MWh per year, reports local Mediafax. The project is to be completed in September 2017.

The compound will cover a total area of over 61,000 sqm and will comprise 15 buildings with more than 1,000 apartments (studios, two and three bedrooms). The apartments will have between 38.4 sqm and 94 sqm.

The project will be developed in stages and the first phase, which will include four buildings, will be completed by December 2015, writes romania-insider.com.

Each building will be equipped with a green energy system that will comprise 120 solar panels placed in six rows, and an inverter designed to transform direct current into alternating current.

A studio in the Solar Neighborhood will cost EUR 30,500, a two-bedroom apartment will have a price of 39,000, and a three-bedroom apartment will cost EUR 70,900.
