Romania has a pipeline of projects in the energy field worth of around 9 billion euros in the next couple of years and by the end of this decade is expecting to receive from various sources a total of 80 billion euros.

“In the next couple of years, we are looking at 67 projects in the energy field that will be financed with 9 billion euros more or less. By 2028-2029 more than 80 billion euros will flow into Romania from all sources – NRRP, state budget, and multiannual financial schemes. I hope we will be able to absorb it and move further”, said George Agafiței, State Counsellor at the General Secretariat of the Government, at the conference “Spring Cocktail 2023”, organized by Energynomics.

He mentioned that the country has been through a very hard year [2022, e.n.] and this one “doesn’t look very bright too”. However, compared to expectations of a 2% increase, the economic growth realized last year, at 4,8%, was more than twice as high.

Also, in 2022, Romania recorded a historical amount of foreign investments of around 10.7 billion euros, “the biggest figure in 30 years”.

Several large-scale projects in the energy field developed by the government, such as the nuclear reactors in Cernavodă nuclear power plant, the experimental nuclear reactor projects developed with the American NuScale company or the offshore natural gas projects in the Black Sea, have the potential to push the country to become a regional energy hub.

“All these projects should and will turn us into an energy hub in the region. I think we have already started to play our geostrategic card very well in this field. I am positive that Romania is looking further to becoming an energy powerhouse in the region and I hope that we can develop that together”, according to Agafiței.

„Spring Cocktail 2023” was organized by Energynomics. with the support of our partners, among which Electrica Furnizare, Enery, E.ON, Huawei, Photomate, Renomia-Gallagher și Alexandrion Group.
