The decision of the Republic of Moldova not to join the sanctions against Russia is justified, as the country is “vulnerable” and will not withstand possible “counter-sanctions from Russia”, says PAS MP Oazu Nantoi, in a TV8 show, according to Știri.md.

Oazu Nantoi believes that there is a big difference between US sanctions and those of the Republic of Moldova.

“When the United States introduces sanctions, those are sanctions. When it comes to the Republic of Moldova, which is like a leaf on the water with the 5th Column, here, behind us and with the Russian troops on the left bank, our sanctions are reduced to statements,” explained Nantoi.

Moldova’s position has been criticized by Ukraine, which believes that Ukraine’s accession to the European Union should be considered individually.

“With all due respect to our Georgian and Moldovan partners, Moldova and Georgia’s application for EU membership now looks like an attempt to attach their two wagons to a high-speed Ukrainian train traveling to Brussels. Ukraine’s application for accelerated EU membership should be considered separately from the applications from Georgia and Moldova,” says the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, Dmitro Kuleba, according to timpul.md.
