Regional energy cooperation “is no longer optional, but has become essential”, in a context dominated by security, resilience, and strategic alignment, said Mustafa Murat Orhan, Secretary General of the Electricity Producers Association in Turkey that brings together 67 members, both licensed and pre-licensed producers, covering all energy sources, from natural gas and coal to wind and solar.
”It has become a matter of the security, resilience and strategic alignment and in such context the regional cooperation became not optional became essential”, he said at the Energynomics conference “Regional Approach Istanbul: Investments in energy”.
Orhan stressed that the energy transition and the rapid transformations in the sector require closer collaboration between countries, companies, and institutions in order to build stable and efficient energy systems. He described the association’s role as an intermediary between three key pillars: energy authorities, the private sector, and international partnerships, with the objective of supporting a reliable, competitive, and sustainable electricity market.
Referring to Romania, Orhan highlighted the country’s “remarkable” progress in recent years, noting that it is becoming increasingly attractive to investors. According to him, the growth in installed solar capacity, along with the development of storage and gas-fired generation projects, points to a “balanced and successful” energy transition.
“Romania is building a success story in the energy transition and is steadily increasing its attractiveness for investors,” he said, also mentioning the ongoing CCGT projects that contribute to security of supply. He added that this context, supported by European policy frameworks and financing opportunities, is driving growing interest from Turkish companies in the Romanian market. He mentioned Entek Elektrik, a member of the association, as an example of a company already involved in local investments.
