Bucharest’s electrical network is becoming safer and more efficient with the completion of the modernization of the Grozăvești–Filaret underground section, says Prysmian Romania, after supplying and implementing, for the first time in the country, advanced monitoring solutions for Rețele Electrice România (part of the PPC group).

The installed system uses DTS (Distributed Temperature Sensing) and DAS (Distributed Acoustic Sensing) technologies, integrated into a DTAC (Distributed Temperature and Acoustic) assembly capable of collecting and analyzing real-time data on temperature and vibrations in high-voltage cables.

The project is part of the program to rehabilitate and replace the 110 kV cables between the Grozăvești and Filaret stations, an essential investment for increasing the security of energy supply to sectors 4 and 5 and reducing power losses. The new line, with a capacity of 170 MVA, is more efficient and reliable than the previous infrastructure, providing the operator with a complete overview of the system’s performance.

Prysmian monitoring solutions transform electrical infrastructure into a “living” system, capable of continuously transmitting information about its own status and automatically signaling potential risks. Operators can thus prevent faults, avoid unplanned outages, and optimize maintenance, significantly reducing operating costs.

The solution implemented between Grozăvești and Filaret is “a complex architecture of hardware, software, and fiber optics that collects acoustic and temperature data. Problems such as cable overload, abnormal vibrations, or acoustic signals generated by mechanical factors, such as excavations, are now visible in real time,” explained Nistor Constantin, Chief Commercial Officer of Prysmian Romania. “Intelligent monitoring of electrical cable systems is a direct investment in people’s comfort and the safety of urban communities.”

With this solution, Bucharest becomes the first city in Romania to adopt DTAC technology in its transport and distribution network, aligning itself with European standards for the digitization of energy infrastructure.
