As from 1 January 2025, motor vehicles providing passenger transport services, including those carrying out taxi or alternative transport, as well as motor vehicles under 7.5 tonnes carrying goods within cities must be green vehicles, according to Profit.ro.

The provision is included in a legislative project initiated by a group of PSD and UDMR Deputies, who claim that technologies have advanced and cost prices both in terms of engine production and for the purchase of vehicles by the population have decreased and in the context of the high degree of pollution in cities, a measure is needed to address all car owners operating in cities.

Starting this year, at least 30% of public transport purchased annually by public authorities, companies and state-owned companies must be powered by electricity, natural gas or biogas, and private public transport companies, including taxis, will have this obligation. The rest of the acquisitions for the state car park must be insured annually at a rate of at least 20% of vehicles with green technologies – electric or hybrid.
