Strabag Romania has reached an important milestone in the Deleni wind farm project, part of the Prowind North cluster in Vaslui county. The project was entrusted to Strabag as general contractor by PPC Renewables Romania. It has now entered a key phase: the installation of 23 GE Vernova wind turbines, each with a capacity of 6.1 MW.

With a total installed capacity of 140 MW, the Deleni Wind Farm is the largest renewable energy plant in the Moldova region and one of the most important projects of its kind in Romania. When it becomes operational at the end of 2025, the facility will generate approximately 370 GWh of green energy annually, enough to power 62,000 households and reduce CO2 emissions by approximately 215,000 tons per year.

“We are proud to see this landmark project progressing according to plan and entering the most visible phase of construction,” said Herbert Schuster, Commercial Subdivision Manager at Strabag Romania.

“The installation of the 23 turbines marks a turning point in the project and brings Romania one step closer to its renewable energy goals.”

Since construction began in March, Strabag Romania has carried out extensive civil, infrastructure and electrical works that have laid the foundation for the current turbine installation phase. The team has built all the foundations for the 23 wind turbines, using over 2,300 tonnes of reinforcing steel and 28,000 m³ of concrete. In parallel, over 36 kilometres of technological roads, almost 386,500 m² of crushed stone platforms and access roads have been completed to ensure full accessibility to the site.

To ensure proper drainage and water management, Strabag also constructed 19 drainage channels with a total length of 160 meters and excavated over 35,500 meters of ditches and drainage channels. The works required a total of 480,000 m³ of earthworks, including excavations and fills.

In addition to the civil and infrastructure components, the electrical backbone of the project was implemented. This includes the installation of 110 kilometers of medium voltage cables and 37 kilometers of fiber optic cables, as well as the construction of three transformer stations and an interconnection substation in the village of Banca.

The Deleni Wind Farm project diversifies Romania’s wind energy production beyond the Dobrogea area, strengthening grid stability and energy security. It also brings direct benefits to the local communities of Deleni, Costești and Bogdănești, through job creation, infrastructure improvements and long-term tax revenues.
