Power consumption falls by 1.1% at eight months

Final consumption of electricity in the national economy was 32.9 billion kWh in the first eight months of the year, 1.1% lower than in the corresponding period of 2013, according to data published by the National Statistics Institute (INS). Public lighting decreased by 25.1%, while household consumption fell by 1.6%.

Export of electricity was 4.6 billion kWh, an increase of 3.8 billion KWh, and the technological consumption in networks and stations was 4.17 billion kWh, down 3.9%.

Primary energy resources increased by 3.4%, and those of electricity have increased over the same period of last year by 8.5%. Domestic production amounted to 14.5 million toe, up 1.4% compared to the same period last year, while imports rose by 8.2%.

During this period, power resources were 41.7 billion kWh, an increase of 8.5% compared to the reference period of 2013. The electricity resource increase was primarily due to increased production by 8.9%.

Production of thermal power plants was 17.19 billion kWh, up 5.5%. Production from hydro increased by 17.4% to 12.7 billion kWh, while nuclear energy production decreased by 0.6%, to 7.6 billion kWh. Solar and wind energy increased at 2.9 billion kWh, respectively 973, 5 million KWh.
