The market for photovoltaic panel power generation projects has “exploded” in the last two years, but very few new plants will be completed by 2027, i.e. 20%, said Adrian Paraschiv, Country Manager of Photomate, at the conference “2024: A defining year for the renewable energy sector in Romania”.

“Optimistically, 20% of these projects will be done by 2027, so about 1 GW. Now we see a gap between the euphoria generated last years by the price of energy and the current price,” he said.

Two years ago, the market in Romania “exploded” from mainly small residential projects to investments in units of hundreds of megawatts and energy storage.

However, many of these projects will never come to fruition.

“We have to be realistic about the implementation of projects, because there are a lot of gigawatts on paper, but in reality implementation has a different pace. Until a few years ago, the electricity grid was blocked by paperwork – many ATRs obtained over many years that never materialised and blocked other investments,” Paraschiv added.

The conference “2024: A defining year for the renewable energy sector in Romania” was organized by Energynomics with the support of our partners: ADC, Alive Capital, CRC Energy, Elektra Renewable Support, EnergoPower, Ensys, Extro, Horváth, ING Bank, LONGi Solar, Monsson Operation, Nofar Energy, OX2 România, Photomate, PNE Romania, Polytrade Global, REI Grup, Renomia, Sph3ra Management Solutions, Transelectrica, WALDEVAR Energy, Wiren Romania. On this occasion, Energynomics launched its first report under the initiative “Monitor of the Romanian Photovoltaic Projects”.
