Petromidia refinery, restarted after turnaround completion

Rompetrol Rafinare, a member company of KMG International, has resumed its production activity at Petromidia refinery and petrochemicals division after safely completing the planned turnaround according to current legislation.

“The production activity at Petromidia refinery runs normally. The daily processed quantity is 14.000 tons. We estimate an overall refinery production of 5 million tons by the end of 2015 regardless of the fact that production was stopped for over a month during the turnaround. After completion of works, the equipment operates with a high degree of safety and at a low maintenance cost, the mechanical availability reaching 96.5%.”, stated Yedil Utekov, Rompetrol Rafinare General Director.

The overall quantity of the processed feed-stock in the first half of 2015 at Petromidia refinery was 11% more than during the same period last year and reached 2.6 million tons. The refinery processed a record quantity in 2014 – 5.05 million tons feed-stock, with no planned or unplanned shutdowns.

The planned turnaround that takes place every 5 years according to current legislation and ensures the functionality of the refinery was coordinated and carried out by Rominserv, general contractor of KMG International and 44 other companies, totaling over 4.000 involved employees. The companies on Petromidia platform took additional HSEQ measures and trained all contractors working on the platform during the period in order to safely carry out the works and reach the goal of zero incidents.

The investment necessary for the turnaround amounted to 77.5 million USD. The works envisaged corrective and preventive maintenance and technical inspections of equipment in order to maintain the nominal capacity of the refinery.
