Last year, 2,159 children were victims of road accidents on Romanian roads because they were not protected with specific car safety systems, such as child seats or seat belts, according to a press release of OMV Petrom.

The “Mission Zero Uninsured Children – for zero victims in road accidents” campaign aims to change the attitude of Romanians regarding the safety of children in cars.

Petrom stations, in partnership with the Romanian Police, today launch the national awareness campaign among parents, regarding the importance of using safety systems for children, during road trips. In 2021 alone, 142 children died in road accidents in 2021, and of these, an overwhelming proportion were uninsured (105).

“Safety, both of our employees and of our customers, is our main priority. We want to draw attention through the “Mission Zero Uninsured Children” Campaign to the use of road safety devices in the car, especially when it comes to the protection of children. We all need to be aware of the importance of safety systems, because at critical times our lives depend on them,” said Radu Căprău, member of the OMV Petrom Directorate, responsible for the Refining and Marketing activity.

“Mission Zero Uninsured Children aims to raise the awareness and responsibility of all citizens, but especially parents, regarding the obligation to use the safety systems in the car, especially if those traveling with us small. We must be aware that personal example is very important for our little ones, and by breaking traffic rules we end up exposing our children to major risks. Through this campaign, we aim to convey to adults the importance of obeying road rules by wearing seat belts and child restraint systems, because most of the time, these have saved lives,” added George Grigore, director of the Road Directorate.

The “Mission Zero Uninsured Children” initiative carried out by Petrom in partnership with the Romanian Police has as main objective to induce driving parents to adopt the behavior related to the mandatory use of safety systems for children in the cars. It will be supported by a media communication campaign that will run this summer.

Also, informative materials on this topic produced in partnership with the Romanian Police will be offered directly in Petrom stations to all customers who have children in the cars, as well as during the actions organized by the Police representatives.
