OMV Petrom, the largest integrated energy company in South-Eastern Europe, continued to be, in 2022, the largest taxpayer in the Romanian economy and provided 7% of tax revenues to the consolidated state budget of Romania. Direct and indirect taxes, fees and contributions represented more than 19 billion lei, while basic and special dividends amounted to about 1 billion lei.

Direct taxes had the largest increase, reaching approximately 10 billion lei, almost 4 times more than in 2021. These include profit tax and other direct taxes, oil royalties, numerous taxes and additional contributions applicable to oil and gas extraction, sales of petroleum products, electricity production, natural gas and electricity trade. Of this amount, additional taxes and contributions accounted for 7.3 billion lei.

“We had record contributions to the state budget in 2022. They amounted to almost 20 billion lei, while our net profit amounted to 10 billion lei. We paid all our taxes, duties and contributions on time and voluntarily complied with the measures taken by the Government of Romania for the partial compensation of fuel prices. For 2023, the company has planned investments of 6 billion lei, equivalent to approximately 60% of the net profit obtained in 2022. We are a Romanian company, with a major role in the energy sector of the country, supplying over a third of the natural gas requirement, oil and fuels and about 10% of electricity production,” said Christina Verchere, CEO of OMV Petrom.

The financial results of OMV Petrom reflected the unprecedented market context, with high and volatile international prices of energy products, but also the effects of significant investments in the modernization and diversification of its operations, both in Romania and at the regional level.

For the year 2023, the company has planned investments of 6 billion lei, the equivalent of about 60% of the net profit obtained in 2022.
