Nova Power & Gas, a Romanian energy company and part of the E-INFRA group, announces the start of the largest battery storage project in Romania. The facility to be built in Florești, Cluj County, will have a capacity of 200 MW/ 400 MWh and will be operational by the end of 2025. Subsequently, another 600 MW/ 1,200 MWh storage project will be built, by 2028. At the same time, the trust announces investments in two gas-fired power plants of 150 and 200 MW, respectively,

The investment in the first storage park will double the current total energy storage capacity in Romania, directly contributing to the stability of the national grid and the efficient integration of renewable sources, the company says.

“In addition to this project, Nova Power & Gas continues its investments in energy infrastructure and announces the start-up of a 150 MW gas-fired power plant in Câmpia Turzii, with a commissioning deadline for the first stage in December 2026. At the same time, our plans until 2028 include the development of a new 200 MW gas-fired power plant and the development of new 600 MW / 1,200 MWh storage facilities.

Through these investments, we aim to maintain and strengthen our leading position in the field of storage and to invest heavily in the production of electricity in gas-fired power plants, in order to support the balance and flexibility of the energy system,” said Septimiu Costea, CTO of Nova Power & Gas.

Nova is currently the national leader in energy storage capacities, with 240 MWh already operational. At the same time, the company is investing heavily in electricity production facilities, both in renewable power plants and in gas-fired power plants.

In parallel, Nova is a major supplier of electricity and natural gas, with over 4.6 TWh of energy and gas delivered in 2024 and a turnover of almost 3 billion lei. The company is consistently among the suppliers with the best prices, according to the ANRE comparator.

The company is also active in the region, with subsidiaries in Bulgaria, Serbia, Hungary and the Republic of Moldova.
