The Moldova Energy Independence and Resilience (MEIR) office was inaugurated in Chișinău, just a few days after the National Energy Regulatory Agency approved the complete set of Codes and Guidelines for Electricity Networks, completing the transposition of the Electricity Integration Package.

The event sends a strong signal regarding the continuity of reforms. The opening of MEIR comes just as the Moldovan market is preparing to connect to the European electricity market, following a technical package aligned with ENTSO-E standards and EU market rules.

The MEIR office operates within the Energy Community Secretariat and is funded by the European Union. Its role is to provide technical support to the Moldovan authorities for the implementation of European legislation on electricity, gas, renewables, and energy efficiency, as well as to strengthen the institutional capacity necessary for integration into the single market.

The inauguration was attended by Energy Minister Dorin Junghietu, representatives of the European Union Delegation, and the director of the Energy Community Secretariat, Artur Lorkowski. All emphasized that the pace of energy reforms in the Republic of Moldova has accelerated and that European support is now focused on implementation and technical preparation of the market.

For the energy sector, this sequence—the full adoption of the integration package, followed immediately by the operationalization of the MEIR—shows that the process of convergence with the European market is proceeding in a phased and verifiable manner. In the medium term, harmonized rules, regulatory stability, and institutional capacity building can open up investment opportunities, particularly in renewables and energy efficiency.

Politically, the inauguration of MEIR confirms that the Republic of Moldova treats European energy integration as a strategic priority, with clear objectives and a timetable supported by international partners.
