The Kozloduy nuclear power plant is operating according to schedule, with additional measures being taken in response to the extraordinarily low Danube level, the Bulgarian Energy Ministry announced, BTA reports.

The ministry said that all technical and organizational measures continue to be implemented, even though additional preventive measures have been identified and examined to ensure the proper operation of the plant in difficult hydrological conditions.

A working group established at the Kozloduy plant is analyzing all possible options for ensuring the plant’s operation, paying particular attention to the facilities at the riverside pumping station. The group is working tirelessly on technical solutions to optimize the operation of the riverside pumps, the reactor cooling systems, the spent fuel storage facility and the entire hydraulic complex, while monitoring and controlling the operation of the facilities, according to Agerpres.

A working group within the Bulgarian Ministry of Energy is also supporting the work of the teams at the Kozloduy plant and coordinating the actions of the various institutions. The ministry said that options are being analyzed and additional measures are being prepared in due time to ensure the necessary water quantities.

Currently, the Kozloduy nuclear power plant is operating according to schedule. The plant is the largest electricity producer in Bulgaria and is of essential importance for maintaining the energy systems of the Balkan countries within the appropriate parameters.

The Bulgarian Ministry of Energy added that it is in constant communication with both Bulgarian and regional ministers, as well as with European institutions, on the need for coordinated response actions.
