Ker Toki Power Romania announces the start of its first greenfield investment in Romania: a stand-alone storage battery, with an installed power of 147 MW and a capacity of 294 MWh with the possibility of expansion to 609 MWh, developed through the company Oltenia Tech Investment Solution.
During the most recent meeting of the Regulatory Committee of the National Regulatory Authority for Energy (ANRE), the granting of the establishment authorization requested by Oltenia Tech Investment Solution SRL for the construction of the new energy capacity Electric Energy Storage Facility – IS Ișalnița was approved.
The investment, with an estimated value of about several tens of millions of euros, is scheduled to be completed in the first part of next year.
“We are pleased to announce the first greenfield investment that Ker Toki Power is making in Romania. The Ișalnița project marks an important step in our development strategy on the local market and reflects our commitment to contribute to a more flexible, more efficient and better prepared energy system for the integration of renewable energy”, says Aurel Mîndrican, General Manager of Ker Toki Power Romania.
The development of the IS Ișalnița project responds to an increasingly important need of the energy system: the integration of a growing volume of renewable energy, under conditions of stability and economic efficiency.
Through this investment, Ker Toki Power Romania aims to strengthen its capacity to aggregate and optimize electricity, contributing to reducing the costs associated with balancing and capitalizing on the flexibility of energy assets.
“We are consistent with the policy we have assumed: a fair price for energy, which must be as green as possible. For Ker Toki Power RO, the priority is commercial operation and performance optimization for the production and storage capacities of our partners and the Renalfa Solarpro Group, of which we are part.
We position ourselves as an aggregator and optimizer, with an important role in both the local and regional markets, where we operate together with sister companies under the umbrella of Toki Power Holding GmbH. The decision to develop such investments responds to the current challenges of the energy system: the need to integrate an increasing volume of renewable energy without generating imbalances in the network.
Since balancing costs represent an important component of total energy costs, investment in storage represents for us the first step towards an integrated aggregation and optimization solution. Through the project we are starting today, we aim to contribute to the stability of the energy system in Romania and the region”, states Aurel Mîndrican.
Development plans: up to 1200 MWh of storage
Ker Toki Power’s strategy includes the development of its own stand-alone battery storage capacities, with a total estimated capacity between 609 and 1,200 MWh.
“At first glance, we have already achieved our initial objective: 300 MWh of storage capacities. Our intentions and those of our shareholders are to continue investing. Romania is one of the most important markets for the group, benefiting from interconnections with Bulgaria, Hungary and Serbia – countries where we are already active, at group level. Our strategy aims for an organic expansion on the Romanian market, in correlation with the regional development of the Group”, says Aurel Mîndrican, general manager of Ker Toki Power Romania.
“The results recorded so far far exceed our initial estimates regarding turnover for this year, of at least 60 million lei. This evolution confirms the potential of the Romanian market and the efficiency of our business model. In the medium term, in the next 2-3 years, we aim to achieve an annual turnover 10-20 times higher than the initial estimate”, adds the general manager of Ker Toki Power.
A branch of Toki Power Holding GmbH, Ker Toki Power Romania is a supplier, optimizer, aggregator and trader of electricity, licensed by ANRE, which is part of the Renalfa Solarpro Group, one of the important companies in the renewable energy sector in South-Eastern Europe.
