Romania is willing to provide its own infrastructure to diversify the supply of natural gas from multiple sources, in the context in which it wants to eliminate energy dependence on the Russian Federation, said on Thursday President Klaus Iohannis, at the Cotroceni Palace, after meeting with the Prime Minister of Spain, Pedro Sanchez.

“From the discussions we had today, it became clear that Romania and Spain have converging opinions on the importance we give to the development of energy transport infrastructure, ensuring interconnections between Member States, increasing production and storage capacity. Romania is willing to provide its own energy infrastructure to diversify the supply of natural gas from multiple sources,” said the head of state, according to Agerpres.

He said the measures needed to reduce the impact of energy prices on European consumers as much as possible would be discussed at next week’s European Council meeting.

“Measures taken at the European level must also take into account the energy security of the Republic of Moldova and Ukraine,” added President Iohannis.
