Electricity continued to register the highest price increase in the last year, increasing by 57.2% in March 2026, compared to the same month in 2025, after the elimination of the capping scheme, according to data from the National Institute of Statistics.
In food, the highest price increases were also maintained in this interval for coffee, its price rising by 23.29%. Fresh fruits became more expensive by 14.23% compared to last year, while prices for fruits and canned fruits are higher by 11.79%, according to Agerpres.
Prices in the group of sugar, sugar products and honey products increased by 11.16%.
Other substantial increases are also noted for cow’s milk, 9.69%, bread, 9.86%, and beef, 11.47%, while poultry meat has increased in price by 7.73%.
According to statistics, eggs have increased their price in this interval by 14.63%.
In the alcoholic beverages category, the price of beer has increased in the last year by 7.74%, and that of wine by 6.19%.
Another significant increase in prices is also noted for fresh fish, by 7.91%, for oil, +7.31%, for citrus fruits, +9.35%, and pork has increased in price by 3.08%.
The INS mentions that there are also price reductions in March compared to March 2025 for some food products such as potatoes (-11.08%), beans and other legumes (-5.01%), flour (-3.38%) and corn (-1.78%).
A decrease of up to one percent compared to last year in the period is recorded for sugar, the tariff decreasing in this case by (-0.52%).
Among non-food goods, the most significant price increases in March continue to be in the electricity tariff, which increased by 57.2%, after the elimination of the support scheme regarding the capping of electricity prices.
Other tariff increases in this category were also recorded for thermal energy (13.41%), books, newspapers, magazines (10.11%), detergents (9.89%), tobacco and cigarettes (7.42%).
Last but not least, medicines also increased their prices in March, by 4.13%, and fuels by 12.93%, meaning an increase of 8.74 percentage points compared to the increase they had in February 2026 in the period.
During the period March 2026 – March 2025, there was also a single price decrease, namely for gas, by 7.08%.
In the services category, the highest price increases in March 2026 compared to the similar month in 2025 were recorded, as last month, in the case of CFR tickets, which increased by 24.40%, followed by those of water, sewerage and sanitation by 15.49%, those of hygiene and cosmetics by 14.12% and those of other industrial services by 15.68%.
Other significant increases in this category, over the course of a year, were recorded in auto repair services, 13.55%, footwear and clothing manufacturing and repair services, 13.91%.
Rents increased in the last year by 8.26%. At the same time, healthcare became more expensive by 12.26%, urban transport increased its tariff by 8.88%, and interurban road transport by 9.48%.
The only price decrease in this category continues to be recorded in the case of air service tariffs, which decreased compared to the previous year in the period by 7.49%.
Postal service tariffs, which had reduced their rates in previous months, this time, in March 2026 compared to the similar month in 2025, increased by 9.79%.
