Greenvolt Next—a Greenvolt Group company specializing in distributed renewable energy generation solutions for the commercial and industrial sectors—has signed an agreement with Carrefour Property to install solar carports in the parking lots of Carrefour stores across France.

The agreement follows a national tender launched by Carrefour Property for the development, financing, construction, operation, and maintenance of solar carports throughout its French real estate portfolio. The partnership targets an installed capacity of approximately 25 MWp and involves the installation of around 45,000 photovoltaic panels.

The project will be implemented at approximately 120 Carrefour locations in France. Each installation will be tailored to the specific operational and technical requirements of the individual store, taking into account factors such as parking lot layout, underground utility infrastructure, customer traffic, the continuity of store operations, grid connection, and permitting requirements.

Under this 20-year partnership—structured as a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA)—Greenvolt Next will provide an end-to-end solution, covering the financing, feasibility studies, development, construction, operation, and maintenance of the solar installations.

The estimated annual energy production will cover a significant portion of the electricity consumption for the targeted stores, helping to reduce Carrefour’s exposure to energy price volatility and contributing to the decarbonization of its real estate assets. “This partnership with Carrefour Property reflects the robustness of the pan-European Greenvolt Next platform. Our direct experience with similar projects carried out alongside other major retail operators provides us with a proven model—one that we leverage in every market where we operate—to support large companies in their energy transition,” stated João Manso Neto, CEO of the Greenvolt Group.

“This agreement allows us to accelerate the integration of photovoltaic energy generation into our real estate portfolio in France, while simultaneously enhancing the customer experience and supporting the energy transition of our stores. Beyond the environmental impact, the partnership offers long-term financial predictability, helping to hedge against electricity price volatility and reinforcing our broader sustainability commitments,” emphasized Evan Linker, Global Energy Director at Carrefour.

“Our integrated approach and our ability to deliver a comprehensive solution—combining financing, development, construction, and long-term operation—have enabled Greenvolt Next to support Carrefour Property in accelerating its energy transition through solutions that are both technically sound and economically efficient,” said Gino Gauthier, CEO of the Distributed Generation division at Greenvolt Next.
