Romania imported, in the first three months of 2020, a quantity of usable natural gas of 629,600 tons of oil equivalent (toe), 6.2% (41,700 toe) lower than in the similar period of 2019, according to centralized data of the National Institute of Statistics.

According to the draft Energy Strategy of Romania, published on the website of the relevant ministry, about 400 oil and natural gas fields are exploited in Romania. For another 39 deposits, oil development-exploitation and oil exploitation agreements were concluded, having as holders various companies. Most of these deposits are mature, with a lifespan of over 25-30 years, according to Agerpres.

The document also indicates that natural gas production will decline, after reaching a new peak of 132 TWh in 2025, as a result of production in the Black Sea, at 96 TWh in 2030 and 65 TWh in 2050.
