Extended renewable energy is all the hydro energy that is produced in Romania, which we pretend we don’t see, all the nuclear energy that exists and will appear, and on the horizon of the 2030s we will far exceed the target of 42-45% renewable energy in consumption finally, said George Vişan, energy market division, Transelectrica.

“We tend to consider the wind and the sun as renewable energies, it is not so. The extended renewable energy, as I call it, is all the hydro energy that is produced in Romania and which we pretend not to see, all the nuclear energy that exists and will appear. By the 2030s we will far exceed the target of 42-45% of consumption. What does 42-45% of consumption mean? Consumption is a relative quantity. As you have seen, consumption has decreased. In our estimates and assessments, at the level of the 2030s, consumption will remain approximately equal or constant with this period we are in, 2024-2025,” said George Vişan, according to Agerpres.

He referred to the electrification of transport and heating and pointed out that “we must seriously think that, in the very near future, gas distribution networks will be replaced by heating with heat pumps”.

“It is possible to increase consumption from the electrification of the economy. Gas will continue to be used for years, probably. The economy will be electrified. Electricity will be produced for 10-15 years with new gas plants: Mintia, Iernut, maybe others appeared as well, but not as a transitory measure, but as a medium to long-term measure, a stable and reliable measure. In the end, you have to balance the energy system,” said George Vişan.
