The Romanian Commodity Exchange (BRM) has announced the conclusion of Romania’s first solar-profile electricity transaction on the market segment launched on March 2, 2026. The contract, concluded between two Romanian companies active in renewable energy project development, provides for the delivery of a total of 1,920 MWh in September 2026, at a price of RON 275/MWh.
The “Solar Profile” product allows electricity to be contracted according to an hourly structure that more closely reflects the actual generation curve of photovoltaic power plants. It addresses one of the market’s increasingly visible challenges: solar energy is not produced evenly throughout the day, while many conventional contracts provide for constant delivery volumes. The mismatch between these two profiles can generate imbalances, additional costs and greater exposure to spot market fluctuations. By operating on this BRM market segment, producers can sell their forecast output more accurately, while suppliers, traders and consumers can integrate the purchased volumes more efficiently into their own portfolios.
BRM operates several electricity and natural gas market segments, including markets for short-term transactions and forward products. The long-term relevance of the Solar segment will depend on attracting a larger number of participants, increasing traded volumes and diversifying delivery periods. Nevertheless, the first transaction shows that the market is beginning to seek contractual solutions that more closely reflect the physical reality of renewable energy generation, at a time when profile and imbalance management is becoming almost as important as the price of electricity.
Further information about the products and transactions administered by BRM is available on the institution’s website, www.brm.ro.
