energynomics Awards Celebrated High Performance in Energy in 2015

For the third year in a row, the communication platform energynomics.ro awarded the most meritorious companies, projects and personalities in the Romanian energy industry. Varinia Radu and Sergiu Spătaru, representatives of the publisher Wing Media Energy Consulting, opened the Gala for energy, held this time in Atrium hall of the National Library in Bucharest.

Four keynote speakers had comprehensive discourses on 2015 results and 2016 perspectives: Victor Grigorescu – Minister of Energy, SMEs, and the Business Environment, H.E. Paul Brummell – British Ambassador to Romania, Mihnea Crăciun – EBRD Deputy Director and in charge with the projects in the Energy Sector in Romania and Răzvan Nicolescu, former Minister of Energy, at the moment Executive Lead Advisor at Deloitte România.

Central moment of the evening was the celebration of the winners of energynomics Awards for each of the 9 categories. This year’s Jury members were: Niculae Havrileţ – president ANRE, Bogdan Văduva – partner KPMG, Roberto Musneci – partner Serban & Musneci Associates, Radu Dudău – co-founder and director EPG, Iulian Iancu, president CNR-CME, Sergiu Sebeși – president, CSR Nest Association, Farrukh Khan – partner Deloitte România, Lucian Anghel – CEO BCR Pensii and president BSE.

Corporate Social Responsibility – Hunt Company of Romania

Simona Titică, sales manager ALD Automotive România handed the award for Corporate Social Responsibility to Mark Wagley, country manager Hunt Company of Romania, for the activities developed in the program “It’s in your power”. Other nominated companies were E.On România, GDF SUEZ Energy România, CEZ Group in Romania and Romgaz.

Financing of the Year – OMV Petrom

Viorel Răuca, Direct Sales Manager, Docentris / Kyocera handed the award for Financing of the Year to OMV Petrom, for the success of a syndicated loan worth EUR 1bn, an absolute record for a local company in the market of corporate financing. The award was received by Cristina Enoiu, Senior Treasury Manager OMV Petrom. Other nominated companies at this category were CEZ Distribuţie, KMG International and Oscar Downstream.

Best Newcomer – Eva Energy

Ionuţ Farcaş, vicepresident of Energy Division at Schneider Electric România handed the award for Deal of the Year to Christian Hagmann, founder of Eva Energy, for the success of convincing in a year over 9,000 households to give up the regulated supply contract, to change the supplier and enter in commercial relation with their company. Other nominated companies at this category were ABMEE & Servelect Cluj, CEZ Group in România, Raffles Energy and Valeg Creative Solutions.

Deal of the Year – Black Sea Oil & Gas

Andrey Bogdanov, general manager of PETROTEL-LUKOIL handed the award for Deal of the Year to Oana Ijdelea, representantive of Black Sea Oil & Gas, for the acquisition of Midia Resources by Carlyle group. Midia Resources, company which was owned by Sterling Resources, has changed its name into Black Sea Oil & Gas (BSOG) after the acquisition of its hydrocarbon assets by the financial group Carlyle and continues operations in the Romanian sector of the Black Sea. Other nominated companies at this category were Franklin Templeton, GDF SUEZ Energy România, MVM Partner Bucharest and Transeastern Power Trust.

Energy efficiency – E.ON România

Mihaela Sârbu, Business Development Manager at SGS România handed the award for Energy efficiency to Frank Hajdinjak, general manager of E.ON România, for the project “Energy in childhood schools” which was implemented during May & September 2015 in 11 schools in 7 counties of Moldavia and Transylvania. Other nominated companies at this category were Elsaco Electronic, Luxten Lighting Company, Unicmar New Energy and The Technical University of Cluj-Napoca.

Executive of the Year – Victor Ionescu, OPCOM

Melania Mirea, executive manager of BCR Pensii handed the award for the Executive of the Year to Mr. Victor Ionescu, general manager of OPCOM for coordinating the activity of organization and management of electricity and gas markets, projects and development directions of OPCOM, in the context of steps for integration in the single European energy market. Other nominated executives were Remus Borza (Hidroelectrica), John Long (Nobel Oil), and Petru Văduva (Transgaz).

Outstanding development – Electrica SA

Bogdan Apahidean, general manager LeasePlan handed the Outstanding development award to Electrica SA, for the advance the company reported in its smart metering program. Electrica started to install smart metering systems in residential areas since 2005 and it currently has the largest number of metering points – over 130,000, as well as the most ambitious pilot-projects. The award was received by Ioan Roşca, general director Electrica. Other nominated companies at this category were Luxten Lighting Company, Nuclearelectrica, Regional Air Services, Hidroelectrica SA.

Lifetime Achievement Award – Octavian Lohan, Transelectrica

Varinia Radu, founding partner of Wing Media Energy Consulting, handed the Lifetime Achievement Award to Mr. Octavian Lohan, member in the Directorate of Transelectrica. Over a over 35 years career in the National Power System (NPS), Octavian Lohan ocuppied several management positions with Transelectrica, up to Deputy General Manager. For almost 20 years, he was responsible for the operational control of the power transmission network and then for the entire system. Other nominated seniors were Emilian Mateescu (adviser to the General Manager of ELCEN) and Ionel Bucur (director Cernavoda NPP).

Young Energy Professional – Claudiu Butacu, EFdeN

Cristian Buşu, State Secretary in the Ministry of Energy has awarded Claudiu Butacu, president of EFdeN Association, with an excellency diploma, for the inauguration, in 2015, of the first Research Center for Comfort Conditions in Romania, a prototype of solar house appreciated and rewarded at national and international level. Claudiu Butacu has been managing the Fundraising department of EFdeN for over 3 year, and he is a member of the VLER – the Future Energy Leaders’ Programme coordinated by RNC-WEC. Other nominated young professionals were Alina Constantin (RATEN-ICN), Daniela Stoicescu (Eva Energy), Delia Răucescu (Optim Project Management), George Constantin (Grupul Romelectro). Selection and evaluation of the candidates for this year’s Young Energy Professional Award was realized by energynomics.ro in partnership with RNC-WEC.


Since 2013, the awards offered by energynomics.ro has as a primary role to provide the energy community in Romania with successful models, aspirational benchmarks and case studies from exceptional organizations and personalities.
