Electricity traders are not overtaxed, according to the GEO with the new measures in the energy and gas markets for next year. This is despite the fact that the Government had initially intended to introduce a tax for them, on each transaction, writes e-nergia.ro.

The taxation of traders would even have been adopted in the GEO adopted at the end of last week, the one with the measures for the protection of energy consumers, valid from April 1 for one year. In one of the drafts of the GEO that circulated before the final form was adopted, there was even a special paragraph with the new tax that would have been paid by energy and gas traders.

“During the period of application of the provisions of this emergency ordinance, the income generated by the holders of electricity/gas trader licenses, by suppliers who do not have end customers, as well as by non-resident economic operators participating in the electricity markets and natural gas, resulting from sales on centralized/organized markets are taxed at 2% of the value of transactions.”

In the final form of the Ordinance, adopted by the Government and published in the Official Gazette, this provision has disappeared, and there is nothing mentioned related to the taxation of energy traders.
