Electrica Furnizare is offering a 100% discount on active energy for industrial consumption shifted to off-peak hours

Electrica Furnizare has launched the “Ținem România Aprinsă” programme, under which industrial companies in its customer portfolio can benefit, in August 2026, from a 100% commercial discount on the active energy component corresponding to eligible consumption shifted from the 19:00-23:00 interval to the 10:00-16:00 interval.

The benefit does not apply to all electricity consumed during the daytime or to the entire bill. The discount is granted exclusively for the volume shifted, nominated by the company, confirmed by the supplier and subsequently validated in accordance with the programme mechanism and the provisions of the addendum to the electricity supply agreement. Network tariffs, taxes, contributions and the other components of the bill remain unchanged. The actual value of the commercial benefit for each company will therefore depend on the amount of electricity it can effectively shift from peak hours to the interval with higher availability.

The programme is intended for industrial companies in Electrica Furnizare’s customer portfolio that record significant consumption between 19:00 and 23:00 and can reschedule certain processes by several hours.

A daily nomination and validation mechanism

Participation is organised through a mechanism applied on a daily basis. On the day before consumption, by 9:00, the company submits to Electrica Furnizare the volume of electricity, expressed in MWh, that it intends to shift.

Electrica Furnizare confirms the volume allocation between 9:00 and 14:00. On the programme day, the company must consume the allocated volume between 10:00 and 16:00 and reduce its consumption accordingly between 19:00 and 23:00.

The supplier analyses and validates the consumption, and the commercial discount is subsequently shown on the electricity bill. The company decides how to reorganise its operations to meet the programme conditions.

Electrica Furnizare states that participation does not require investment in new equipment. Interested companies receive a free analysis of their consumption profile, identifying the processes that can be made more flexible and the volume that could be shifted.

The programme is implemented through an addendum to the electricity supply agreement. The existing agreement and the other components of the bill remain unchanged.

    Flexible consumption gains commercial value

“Ținem România Aprinsă” introduces a commercial incentive into the relationship between the supplier and the industrial customer, linked to when electricity is consumed rather than only to the total amount used.

Some auxiliary industrial processes or production stages can be rescheduled without changing the overall level of activity. The ability to participate nevertheless depends on the specific circumstances of each company, the continuity requirements of its processes, its order schedule, technical limitations and the costs generated by changing its operating pattern.

High industrial consumption does not automatically produce a benefit. The company must have sufficiently flexible loads to increase consumption between 10:00 and 16:00 and reduce it between 19:00 and 23:00.

For the shifted and validated volume, the 100% discount on the active energy component may provide a significant financial incentive. The benefit must nevertheless be assessed against any operating costs generated by reorganising activity.

No penalties on days when consumption cannot be shifted

Participation may vary from one day to another. Electrica Furnizare states that no penalties apply when a company is unable to shift consumption on a particular day. In that case, the commercial benefit is not granted for the volume that does not meet the programme conditions.

The mechanism therefore allows companies to participate according to their daily operational availability, without being required to maintain the same flexible volume throughout the programme period.

The programme’s official webpage was published after the first information about the initiative was presented on LinkedIn by Alexandru Chiriță, CEO of Electrica Group. Electrica Furnizare’s documentation now clarifies the applicable time intervals, the daily procedure and the limits of the commercial benefit.

From the perspective of the energy system, shifting consumption from peak hours to the 10:00-16:00 interval may contribute to the more efficient use of available electricity and reduce pressure on the system during the critical evening period. The programme’s ultimate test will nevertheless be the volume of industrial consumption that can actually be shifted and verified during August.
