The Ministry of Economy is considering the elaboration of public policies for the development of the electric and hybrid car sector in Romania, says the relevant minister, Florin Spătaru.

He met with representatives of Ford Romania on Thursday to discuss the dynamics of the development of the European car industry and the semiconductor crisis and the dependence on critical materials that Europe is currently facing.

“Driven by the need to implement a rapid transition to zero carbon emissions, EU Member States are increasingly discussing the future of the electric or hybrid car industry. These perspectives make us ambitious to take into account public policies aimed at the development of this sector in Romania,” Spataru said in a statement.

He also mentioned the important steps that the Ministry of Economy has already taken to access the 500 million euros, funds through PNRR, for the development of microelectronics, an essential segment for the automotive industry.
