The Israelis at Econergy announced that they have connected the Părău 1 solar power plant to the grid.

“Our BESS Parau 1 solar power plant has just come online: 70MW / 141MWh connected to the grid. It is the first co-located solar plus storage project we have put into commercial operation, adding to the existing 92MW solar power plant in Romania, which is operational since 2024. The combined installed capacity is now 162MW,” company officials say.

“The system has a dedicated grid import capacity, so it can be charged both directly from the solar plant and from the grid, allowing us to optimize for market prices and add new revenue streams in addition to solar power generation. It will also work in harmony with solar power, reducing exposure to balancing costs and negative prices. This is the first time we have built a storage system around an already operational solar installation, a model that we are expanding throughout Romania, where we have the scale and grid position to repeat this process, and currently, we have over 1 GWh of storage under construction or ready to connect,” Econergy officials say.

Econergy announced last month that it had also connected the 59 MW Iancu Jianu photovoltaic project to the grid and began the gradual increase in energy deliveries to the grid. The company is also developing a 35 MW/70 MWh battery storage system at the same site, scheduled for grid connection in the second quarter of 2027.

Iancu Jianu is Econergy’s fifth project to connect in Romania. Following this connection, the company says its Romanian portfolio includes 743 MW of connected and ready-to-connect capacity, with another 861 MW currently under construction.

The battery storage system is being developed as part of Econergy’s strategy to hybridize its solar portfolio in Romania, by co-locating storage capacity with existing photovoltaic generation assets.
