The price of diesel has risen for the second week in a row, this time with more than 1.5%, at Petrom stations monitored by energynomics.ro in eight major cities of Romania: Bucharest, Iasi, Timisoara, Cluj-Napoca, Brasov, Oradea, Constanta and Craiova. In the same interval, the average price of Petrom’s standard gasoline dropped marginally (0.24%).

In the case of diesel, the highest price was registered in Bucharest, where a liter of standard diesel costs 5.57 lei today, by more than 2% higher than on January 14th. An important increase is also recorded in Oradea (+2.02%, up to 5.5 lei/liter). However, the most expensive diesel is sold in Bucharest (5.57 lei/liter) and Brasov (5.54 lei/liter).

In four of the monitored cities, Petrom’s gasoline is cheaper than last week, with the biggest decline (-0.98%) in the station in Brasov. With an increase of 0.41%, the gasoline in Bucharest reaches 5,111 lei/liter, the highest price among the monitored eight, while the price declines by 0.61% in Constanta, the only city where the price stays below 5 lei (4.9).

Since January 1, the prices for car fuels have increased following the entry into force of two normative acts: indexation of excises with the inflation rate, respectively the increase of the mandatory content of biofuels in gasoline and diesel.

Over the last week, crude oil prices in international markets have risen by more than 5% for WTI (54 dollars per barrel, today), and for Brent (62.63 dollars per barrel, today).

However, it is worth mentioning that since the beginning of the year, the Romanian currency depreciated by about 1% compared to the euro, and by almost 1.6% compare to the dollar, according to the NBR exchange rate
