The Competition Council authorized the transaction through which Auchan Romania takes over the shops for the sale of food and non-food products from Petrom stations.

Auchan Romania is a member of Auchan Holding, the main activity being retail in stores, with predominant sales of food, beverages and tobacco. In Romania, Auchan currently operates through 33 hypermarkets and 22 MyAuchan proximity stores, the institution said.

OMV Petrom Marketing has as main object of activity “Retail of motor fuels in specialized shops”. The company sells tobacco products through Petrom distribution stations and food, alcoholic and soft drinks, as well as various services related to the restaurant, snack bar, etc.

Following the analysis of this economic concentration, the Competition Council found that the proposed operation does not significantly impede effective competition on the Romanian market or on a substantial part of it, and there are no serious doubts as to its compatibility with a normal competitive environment.
