The Romanian National Committee of CIGRE has opened the call for papers for the 8th edition of the Regional South-East European Conference (RSEEC) 2026, an international event to be held September 22–24, 2026, at the Maritime University of Constanța. The upcoming edition holds special symbolic significance, marking the 100th anniversary of the founding of CIGRE Romania.

The organizers invite researchers, specialists, and practitioners in the field of electrical power engineering to submit scientific papers for the conference’s technical sessions; the deadline for abstract submission is June 15, 2026. The conference aims to serve as a platform for exchanging experiences, promoting innovation, and fostering dialogue among professionals from Romania and abroad.

The RSEEC 2026 agenda will include scientific sessions, technical tutorials, an exhibition by partner companies, meetings organized by the CIGRE Romania Next Generation Network and Women in Energy groups, as well as a technical visit to a local energy facility. The focus of this edition is on new technologies applied in power systems and the link between technological development, education, and the training of the next generation of specialists.

The conference is specifically aimed at students and young professionals in the energy sector, both from Romania and abroad. The program will include a research paper competition for undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral students, with cash prizes. At the same time, the organizers aim for this anniversary edition to bring together representatives from all electrical engineering departments in Romania, in an effort to strengthen the relationship between universities and industry.

CIPRE Romania President Ciprian Diaconu emphasizes that the future of the energy sector depends on the ability to attract and train young professionals, at a time when the energy transition requires both new skills and closer collaboration between academia and the professional world. In this context, CIGRE Romania’s centennial is presented not only as an anniversary celebration but also as a milestone for the continuity of expertise in the field.

For his part, Bogdan Leu, president of CIGRE Romania Next Generation Network, emphasizes that RSEEC has established itself as a valuable platform for technical dialogue and the transfer of know-how, where young professionals and established experts can interact directly. The central message is that training a new generation capable of managing the complexity of modern energy systems depends on the balance between theoretical education and practical experience.

The topics announced for the 2026 edition cover a wide range of interests for the sector: the power grids of the future, digital substations, interconnected systems, power electronics and FACTS systems, hydrogen, smart cities, cybersecurity, renewable energy sources, energy storage, energy efficiency, research and development, and the green transition.

RSEEC 2026 is the only CIGRE technical conference dedicated to young professionals in the power industry and one of the key events for professional dialogue in Romania and the region.
