The Integrated Air Quality Plan (PICA) in Bucharest is to be developed by a consortium of four companies, including Cambridge Environmental Research Consultants.

The general mayor of the Capital, Nicusor Dan, announced on Tuesday, in a post on Facebook, that, following the public auction, the contract for the realization of PICA was awarded last week to a consortium of four companies.

“Among them, Cambridge Environmental Research Consultants has conducted air quality assessment and air quality improvement projects for, among others, London, but also for the capital of Ireland, Dublin, as well as throughout the Republic of Ireland. The project signed with the City Hall lasts 12 months and involves the study on air quality in Bucharest (the main pollutants) and the Integrated Plan on Air Quality (plan of measures),” states the City Hall mayor, according to Agerpres.

On September 24, 2021, the Capital City Hall announced on SICAP a tender for the elaboration of the air quality study and technical assistance in order to realize the Integrated Air Quality Plan in Bucharest. The contract had an estimated total value of 1,750,000 lei.

Earlier, the mayor general stated that Bucharest has environmental arrears and that a study is needed to indicate which are the main polluters.

“Unfortunately, Bucharest has arrears that come from the past and that we must address with priority without neglecting everything that means technology and city of the future. As for the strategy for a green city, it has been in public consultation and this week we are launching a tender for the study that will be the basis for the Integrated Air Quality Plan. Before developing a plan of measures to improve air quality, we need a study to tell us which are the main polluters, where they are, what is the share of each in air pollution in Bucharest,” previously said Nicusor Dan.
