The Berlin government has set up a holding company to carry out a possible nationalization of Gazprom Germany, the energy business abandoned by Russia’s Gazprom in April, Welt am Sonntag reported on Sunday, Reuters reports.

Germany’s energy regulator said in April that it would administer the company – a trading, storage and transport business – in the interest of Germany and Europe, according to Agerpres.

Under the name Securing Energy for Europe Holding GmbH (SEEHG), the holding is responsible for the company’s investments, the newspaper reported, citing a government document.

Two lawyers from the law firm CMS Hasche Sigle are managing directors, the publication added.

CMS Hasche Sigle refused to comment on the news, citing confidentiality obligations.

The German Ministry of Economy said that it is aware of the establishment of the holding, considered as a precautionary measure in view of any restructuring decision.
