Azomureș, the largest producer of fertilizers in Romania and also the largest industrial consumer of natural gas in the country, has now decided to apply new measures to reduce activities, in the coming months, in the context of the energy crisis, with over 200 direct employees of the company to be delegated to other companies or sent into technical unemployment.

The company stopped ammonia production in June, due to price increases, after barely resuming basic production, fertilizers and industrial products, in April, also after a 4-month break, writes Profit.ro.

Also, the companies that provide various maintenance services on the Azomureș platform have been notified that their activity will be reduced by at least 30% in the coming months, with a potential direct impact on their employees.

Azomureș is one of the largest consumers of natural gas in Romania, with a share of approximately 10% of the national consumption, provides 50% of the fertilizers used in Romanian farms and ensures the constant supply of a large number of companies from other industries, being one among the pillars of food security and an important contributor to the supply chain in Romania’s agricultural area.

Azomureș is part of the Swiss group Ameropa, one of the largest traders of fertilizers and grains globally.
