Axpo and the MOSOLF Group, one of the leading system service providers to the automotive industry, are joining forces to build one of the largest solar car park canopy installations in Europe. The project will be realised at MOSOLF’s site in Kippenheim, southern Germany. Covering an area of 109,000 square metres – roughly the size of 15 football pitches – the state-of-the-art photovoltaic system will feature over 54,000 solar modules with a total capacity of up to 24 megawatt peak (MWp).
Once operational, the facility will generate more than 26,700 megawatt hours of green electricity annually – enough to power around 6,500 households. Over 85 per cent of the electricity produced will be fed into the public grid. A 3 MWp section of the plant will be used for self-consumption, increasing MOSOLF’s energy autonomy at the Kippenheim site.
Beyond its environmental value, the project also delivers clear functional benefits: the solar canopies will provide reliable protection for thousands of vehicles stored on site, shielding them from sun, rain and hail – significantly reducing weather-related damage and associated costs. Working conditions for on-site employees will also be noticeably improved.

This project further strengthens Axpo’s solar development in Germany and draws on the company’s extensive experience in building solar car park canopies. MOSOLF has been a long-standing client of Urbasolar, Axpo’s French solar subsidiary. The Kippenheim project forms part of Axpo’s growth strategy in the European solar market and underlines its commitment to supporting businesses with sustainable energy solutions.
