Several unions of aluminum workers, including Alro, protested in front of the government on Friday, demanding that industry prices be capped.

Members of the Free Trade Union Alro, the Alroproduct Trade Union, the UPS Trade Union, the Aluminum Processing Trade Union and the Tulum Alum Trade Union attended the protest.

“The main reason is the fact that the Emergency Ordinance dated 25.01.2022 (…) exempts non-domestic customers who received state aid from the capping of electricity and natural gas for the period 01.02 – 31.03.2022. This is completely incorrect, as it was practically not state aid, but ‘the return of the money that Alro paid as a result of the payments made for CO2 emissions, included in the price of energy’ “, say the trade unions.

Therefore, the unions ask the Government to limit the prices applied to energy and gas to the value of December 2020 for at least one year (the law provides for the possibility of extension to 3 years), as well as banning the export of electricity,” which would be supplied to industrial consumers and households.

Today’s protest is not the first of its kind. The trade unionists also recently picketed the headquarters of the Ministry of Energy in Bucharest, as well as the Prefecture of Slatina.
