Romania discusses in Brussels a package of direct support for SMEs worth 750 million euro, says Minister of Economy, Energy and Business, Virgil Popescu.

“What I can tell you is that I talk, at least at the level of the Ministry of Economy, I talk to the Prime Minister, the Minister of European Funds and the Minister of Public Finance to prepare this package to help small and medium-sized enterprises. From the discussions on that we had on Friday, Saturday, Sunday with Mr. Prime Minister and Mr. Bolos, we are about to prepare a package, at least for direct aid for SMEs of 750 million euro. It is negotiated, Mr. Bolos is discussing at this moment in Brussels,” Popescu told Radio Romania, according to Agerpres.

According to the minister, the package of measures will be made in such a way as not to compensate the losses, but to revive the economy and in the shortest time “to get to where we were at the beginning of the crisis”.

“We come up with a package of measures to cover the gap left by the contraction of the economy. We want to restart the economy gradually, slowly and reach the level we had before. I also think that it is very important to think about what we will do in the post-crisis period and what we will do strategically in Romania for the medium and long term, because, ok, we solve this crisis, but we have to think of what will we do in the future with the Romanian economy, because, in my opinion and of my colleagues in the government, of the prime minister, nothing will be the same as it was before.”
