Romania is in a privileged position in the context of the energy transition because it has natural gas resources, said Manuela Trisnevschi, Head of Energy & Utilities at BCR, at the 9th edition of the Energy Strategy Summit, an event organized by Energynomics.

“Romania is in a privileged position, that is, we have the capacity to build large renewable energy units, but we also have the gas, which can be used during the transition period,” said Trisnevschi.

In order to meet the needs induced by the energy transition, BCR has built several axes of financing investments that have the effect of reducing the carbon footprint and limiting pollution and carefully analyzes projects for the development of new capacities from renewable sources and gas cogeneration. BCR’s strategy is to support large strategic partners, but also small companies that together contribute to the development of the economic environment.

Trisnevschi added that the energy transition is also an economic necessity, and a very important aspect from this perspective is the price. And the industry and the market want it as low as possible, and in order to have a low and stable price it is very important to use technologies that produce energy as cheaply as possible.

“In the last two years, it has been seen that Romania remains vulnerable to geopolitical tensions and it is very important to try to find a diversification of energy production sources. Unfortunately, global players such as Russia, China and the USA have a very large influence on the price of energy,” said Trisnevschi.

In addition, in this context, an important role is played by the location of energy production sources to put too much pressure on the energy distribution and transmission area.

Seen as an assumed obligation, the energy transition will have a chance of success if three elements are maintained, namely the appetite of investors, sources of financing and the stability of the legislative and fiscal framework both in Romania and at the European level.
