Monsson has announced the launch of the Eskilstuna Power Reserve, its first investment in a battery energy storage facility in Sweden, according to a press release sent to the editorial office. The project features a battery energy storage system (BESS) with a capacity of 60 MWh and a power output of 30 MW, designed for a two-hour discharge duration. Commissioning activities began in September 2026, with the start of commercial operations scheduled for November 2026.

The Eskilstuna Power Reserve is designed to provide operational flexibility for the energy system and contribute to grid stability in Sweden’s SE3 bidding zone. The system can switch between charging and discharging in less than three seconds, enabling a rapid response to fluctuations in electricity generation and consumption. The project utilizes Monsson’s proprietary technology and reflects the company’s expertise in the development, design, and implementation of industrial-scale energy storage facilities. Its realization marks the expansion of Monsson’s presence in the Nordic market and the growth of the company’s activities in the energy storage sector. “The Eskilstuna Power Reserve represents an important step in Monsson’s expansion into the Nordic market. Through this 30 MW, 60 MWh project, we are bringing our energy storage technology and expertise to Sweden, with the goal of contributing to grid flexibility and stability. Commissioning activities are currently underway, and commercial operation is scheduled for November 2026. Our teams in Sweden and Romania are prepared to provide these flexibility services not only locally but also on a European level,” stated Sebastian Enache, Head of Strategy & M&A at the Monsson Group, according to the press release.

The launch event, held on October 22 in Eskilstuna under the theme “Storing Energy, Powering Generations,” was attended by representatives from the Swedish energy industry, grid operators, public authorities, and members of the business community. The program included presentations on the project’s technology and business model, discussions with the Monsson team, and guided tours of the facility ahead of the commencement of commercial operations, the press release noted.

“By developing the Eskilstuna Power Reserve, Monsson is expanding its portfolio of storage solutions that support energy systems across Europe, which increasingly rely on renewable sources. The project strengthens the company’s position in the Nordic region, where flexibility and efficient energy management are essential components of energy infrastructure,” highlighted Joanna Lillequist, CEO of Monsson Energy AB.
