OMV Petrom received a sanction from the National Environmental Guard for the operation of the Midia Terminal Section of the crude oil and gas pipeline activity without having a renewed environmental permit. The Environmental Guard requested the closure of the activity until obtaining the environmental permit, but the measure was challenged in court. Until the final decision of the court, the measure is suspended, according to Hotnews.ro.

OMV Petrom claims that a possible stop at Midia Terminal would lead to a complete shutdown of the Black Sea production of about 25,000 boe/ day as of today.

OMV Petrom also shows that it has taken steps to obtain an extension of the environmental permit. The Environmental Authorization was to be renewed in December 2018 and OMV Petrom filed a request from October 2018 together with the supporting documents in full compliance with the legal term stipulated in the applicable regulations, as the company claims. However, the authorization renewal process is complex and extended longer than expected – say the company’s representatives, due to additional requests from the competent environmental authority.
