OMV Petrom and Energy Policy Group (EPG) recently announced the completion of the renovation and rehabilitation works of the Liliești Secondary School in Băicoi, carried out as part of the Efficient Romania program. “The nZEB renovation offers solutions to many problems, making buildings more energy efficient, more sustainable and resilient, as well as more comfortable”, said Radu Dudău, President of EPG and coordinator of the Efficient Romania program. We present in this article what the completed modernization works consisted of.

  • Thermal insulation of the roof and remaking of the hydroisolation;
  • Setting up a system of 30 photovoltaic panels, 500W each;
  • Thermal insulation of the facade;
  • Replacing the woodwork with an energy efficient one, with three-layer glass window;
  • Installation of aluminum sunshades, electrically adjustable, for the sunny windows;
  • Modernization of indoor heating units (pipelines and radiators);
  • Setting up air filtration equipment with heat recovery;
  • Rework of the electrical wiring and setting up a modern LED lightning system;
  • Setting up a heating system of 5 heating pumps, provided by Siemens Energy;
  • Thermal insulation of the basement.

The rehabilitation works carried out at the Secondary School Liliești, with a budget of 1.6 million euros, will generate an annual reduction of about 60% of the energy consumption for the thermal heating of the building. This result can also be achieved with the help of the new system made of 5 heating pumps provided by Siemens Energy, who joined as sponsor to this renovation project. In addition, the school will benefit from “green” electricity, obtained from own sources, through a system of 30 photovoltaic panels with an installed power of 550W each.

The Băicoi school model will not be fully replicated, but the set of completed works represent concrete examples of actions that can be taken not only for responsible energy consumption, but also to allow optimal conditions in which students and teachers from Romanian schools to be able to achieve school performance.

The investments made by România Eficientă will continue with another two education institutions in Ovidiu (Constanța county) and Drobeta-Turnu Severin (Mehedinți county). They will be rehabilitated and modernized to be brought to nZEB standards during a new phase of the România Eficientă program, in amount of EUR 4 million, supported by OMV Petrom.
