Romania consumed last year 76% more renewable energy

Romania’s renewable energy consumption was 1.1 million tons of oil equivalent (toe) in 2013, 75.5% higher than the one from previous year and represented 0.4% of world energy consumption on this segment, according to BP statistics.

The highest consumption of renewable energy has been registered in the U.S. – 58.6 million toe, China – 42.9 million toe, Germany – 29.7 million toe, Spain – 16.8 million toe and Brazil – 13.2 million toe, writes Agerpres news agency. In EU, renewable energy consumption was 110.6 million toe in 2013, and represented 39.6% of the world consumption of renewable power.

By 2030, renewable energy will account for 60% of total electricity production in Europe, shows a Bloomberg forecast, compared to 40%, as it was in 2012. This jump will be based on investment in the sector in Europe, believed to amounts to almost 970 million dollars in the studied time frame.

Globally, renewable investments are estimated to exceed 5 trillion dollars, meaning 66% of everything that will be invested in new production facilities. Leader will be the Asia – Pacific region, with 2.5 trillion dollars. The American continent will invest over 810 million dollars.

Residential installations and offshore wind will be significant components in European investment in renewables, say analysts from Bloomberg. “Of the total amount, about 339 billion dollars will be invested in roof solar panels and 250 billion dollars in offshore wind farms”, believes the director for Europe, Middle East and Africa at Bloomberg News Energy Finance.

Germany and Britain will build about a third of new production capacities in Europe, the Bloomberg raport shows. Besides them, Italy, France and Spain will significantly increase power output thanks to several dozen news installed gigawatts in wind and photovoltaic capacities.

Romania ranks 31 among the attractiveness of investment in the renewable energy sector, according to EY.
