Tesla Inc. CEO Elon Musk has announced that the US company is open to licensing software and supplying batteries and propulsion systems, Reuters reports.

Tesla had previously supplied batteries for Mercedes and Toyota under separate partnership agreements. Battery production is an area in which automotive analysts and officials said Testa has a competitive advantage over established carmakers.

“Tesla is open to licensing software and supplying batteries and propulsion systems. We are trying to accelerate the transition to sustainable energy, we do not want to crush our competitors,” the head of the electric vehicle manufacturer said in a message posted on Twitter.

Tesla currently has a joint venture focused on batteries with Panasonic Corp. and acquires batteries from the Chinese group CATL and the South Korean company LG Chem.

Tesla also wants to build its own battery production facility at its plant in Fremont, California, according to Agerpres.

Batteries are the most expensive and important component of electric vehicles (EVs).

Last week, Elon Musk said Tesla plans to produce its own batteries for electric cars that will be assembled at the future plant near Berlin.
