Romanian BESS on the Fast Track (workshop)

29 Sep 2026 @ 14:00 - 18:00

On 29 September 2026, at the Grand Hotel Bucharest, Simfonia Hall, 4 Nicolae Bălcescu Boulevard, Bucharest, (see the map), Energynomics will organize “Romanian BESS on the Fast Track – From Pipeline to Market”, an invitation-only workshop dedicated to the commercial ecosystem that turns battery storage flexibility into viable, financeable cash flows.

Romania is moving from BESS ambition to execution. With a multi-GW pipeline developing across the country and flexibility becoming increasingly valuable across Romania and Southeast Europe, the competitive question is no longer whether storage has a role in the market, but how owners structure projects commercially, how storage reaches the market and how revenue opportunities are converted into credible and financeable business models.

The workshop brings together BESS owners and developers, optimizers, aggregators, traders, route-to-market providers, lenders, insurers and specialized advisors to examine the practical route from battery asset to commercial plan: revenue options, route-to-market choices, market access, revenue stacking, contractual structures, risk allocation and lender requirements.

Participation is by invitation and subject to confirmation by the organizers and availability of seats. If you are interested in attending the workshop, please contact us.

Romanian BESS on the Fast Track – From Pipeline to Market is conceived not as a conventional conference panel, but as a focused working room for senior market participants. The discussion follows the commercial chain of a BESS project: from understanding the market context, to defining the owner’s commercial plan, selecting an optimization and market-access model, structuring contracts and financing, and finally testing those choices against adverse market scenarios.

CONTEXT

BESS is increasingly recognized as an essential component of Romania’s changing power system, but an installed battery does not automatically become a successful commercial asset.

Owners must decide which revenues they want to pursue, how much merchant exposure they are prepared to accept, which market-access structure fits the project and what risks they want to retain or transfer. Optimizers and aggregators must translate technical flexibility into dispatch strategies, market access and measurable revenues. Banks need sufficient visibility on cash flows, counterparties and contractual protections, while advisors must turn all of these choices into coherent and executable structures.

FORMAT

Romanian BESS on the Fast Track is structured as a compact, in-person B2B workshop in three 50-minute sessions, following the practical sequence through which a storage asset becomes a commercial and financeable project:

  • Market Context & the Owner’s Commercial Plan – where the value of a battery sits in Romania today and the decisions an asset owner must make on revenues, route to market, contractual logic and risk appetite
  • Market Access & Optimization – how flexibility is actually taken to market through dispatch, control, BRP/BSP arrangements, revenue stacking and operational responsibilities
  • Financing, Contracts, Risk & Stress Test – connecting commercial structures with tolling, merchant and hybrid models, risk allocation and lender requirements, then testing them against adverse scenarios

Each session starts with short, data-driven interventions, followed by an open discussion. The format is a fishbowl: open chairs remain next to the speakers, and participants in the room are invited to take them to join the discussion directly, challenge assumptions or share their own experience.

The emphasis is on direct comparison of approaches and substantive discussion between the different sides of the commercial ecosystem rather than conventional presentations.

The workshop is held entirely in English.

PARTICIPATION

The workshop is intended for professionals directly involved in developing, commercializing, operating and financing battery storage projects, including:

  • BESS owners and developers
  • Optimizers and aggregators
  • Energy traders and route-to-market providers
  • Digital and AI solution providers
  • Banks and other financiers
  • Insurers
  • Commercial, technical and legal advisors

Participants are selected based on the relevance and diversity of their market roles, with the objective of creating a balanced working group able to examine the same BESS project from the perspectives of asset ownership, commercialization, optimization, contracting and financing.

The workshop will be moderated to encourage focused and substantive exchanges, allowing participants to question assumptions, compare commercial approaches and test market logic in real time.

Participation is by invitation only and subject to confirmation by the organizers.

A WORKING ROOM, NOT A PANEL

The workshop is built around the fact that no single participant controls the entire commercial logic of a BESS project.

Owners define investment objectives and risk appetite. Optimizers and aggregators turn technical flexibility into market participation. Traders and route-to-market providers connect the asset with revenue opportunities. Advisors help structure the commercial and contractual model. Banks test whether those assumptions can support financing.

Bringing these perspectives into the same room makes it possible to examine not only what each participant can offer, but also where responsibilities meet, where risks are transferred and where commercial assumptions may fail.

The objective is not to identify one universal BESS business model, but to understand the trade-offs between revenue potential, revenue certainty, risk allocation, operational responsibility and control, and how those choices affect the ability of projects to move rapidly from pipeline to market.

ORGANIZER & PARTNERS

The workshop is organized by Energynomics as part of its specialized events platform for the Romanian energy industry.

The event is developed with the support of Elektra Renewable Support, ADEX Energy, Adrem Asset Management, BLU Capital, Dongfang Electric, Electroalfa, Enery, Enexus, Gotion, ING Bank, Marsh Romania and Softenerg WEBUS 4 ENERGY, bringing together complementary perspectives from across the BESS commercial ecosystem.

Themes

  • What revenue streams are actually accessible to BESS projects in Romania?
  • How do owners choose between tolling, merchant, hybrid, optimizer-led and aggregated models?
  • What should a bankable BESS commercial plan contain?
  • What should be included in a term sheet before asking the market for offers?
  • How should ANRE, Transelectrica, grid access and balancing reform risk be allocated?
  • How does co-location interact with CfD, Modernisation Fund and existing RES structures?
