Several installations of the Petrobrazi Ploieşti refinery, owned by OMV Petrom, were stopped and restarted, due to a voltage variation that occurred on Sunday afternoon, the company’s representatives told Agerpres.

“On Sunday, around 15:00, a voltage variation in the refinery caused several installations to be shut down. These have been restarted and are in the process of adjusting the parameters,” OMV Petrom’s response reads.

A cloud of smoke could be seen above the refinery. “For a short period of time, flare gases were burned, according to the legal procedure for such cases,” oil company officials said.

They said they had contacted environmental officials and there was no danger of pollution in the area.

“We mention that the two permanent air quality monitoring stations, located in Brazi and Mitică Apostol district did not exceed the measured emissions,” according to the company.

Petrobrazi Refinery has a processing capacity of 4.5 million tons per year. There is also an 860 MW power plant on the refinery site.
