The Ministry of Environment, Waters and Forests (MMAP) is preparing a set of measures to reduce pollution, including a ban on installing individual thermal power plants in block of flats, wrote on Friday, on Facebook, the interim minister, Barna Tanczos.

“Both the ministry and the ATUs (administrative territorial units) and citizens must make efforts for cleaner air. With the arrival of the cold, air pollution is endangering our health more and more, because after heating homes and traffic, harmful substances remain trapped in the air layers near the surface, especially if the weather is calm, cold and dry. The #VinereaVerde campaign draws attention to the fact that by opting as often as possible for public transport, we can reduce pollution from traffic, and for green heating of homes we must find long-term solutions. For these reasons, we are preparing a set of measures at the ministry, which includes, among other things, a ban on installing our own thermal power plants in the blocks of flats,” Tanczos said, according to Agerpres.

The official added that, in the case of new homes, the solution could be the installation of a joint thermal power plant or the connection of city heating networks.

”These new homes may have a common power plant or will need to be connected to city heating networks that need to be upgraded on the basis of an action plan. Only in this way can we significantly reduce the emissions of buildings,” the Minister of Environment stressed.
