Unit 2 of Cernavoda NPP will enter the planned shutdown program starting Sunday, May 9, the desynchronization from the National Energy System being scheduled at 11:00, informs Nuclearelectrica.

“The planned shutdowns are complex projects, initiated 24 months before the planned date, with a project management team, implementation schedule, human resources planning and appropriate budgeting,” said company representatives.

During the planned shutdown, activities will be carried out for the preventive and corrective maintenance program, for the inspection program, for the mandatory testing program during the planned shutdowns and for the modification implementation program.

“The works will be executed in safe conditions for the plant’s personnel, public and environment, according to the approved procedures used at Cernavoda NPP and in compliance with all protection measures against COVID-19”, say the representatives of Nuclearelectrica.

The Cernavoda nuclear power plant ensures the safe operation of Nuclear Units 1 and 2, each with an installed production capacity of 700 MW. The two reactors at Cernavoda provide about 20% of Romania’s energy needs, according to Agerpres.

Unit 1 of Cernavoda NPP was put into commercial operation on December 2, 1996, and Unit 2 on September 28, 2007.
