SN Nuclearelectrica announces that Unit 1 of the Cernavoda nuclear power plant (NPP) has been reconnected to the National Energy System. Unit 1 of Cernavoda NPP was stopped under control on the night of January 22 to 23, 2021 in order to carry out repair works on the classic/secondary technological circuit of Unit 1.

The repair works were carried out in compliance with the specific working procedures in such situations. The controlled shutdown of Unit 1 and repair work did not have an impact on nuclear safety.

Initially, Unit 1 of Cernavoda NPP should have been stopped in a controlled manner, on the night of Friday to Saturday (January 15-16, 2021), but the shutdown was postponed due to the increase in energy demand, due to extremely cold temperatures.

Nuclearelectrica assures that the failure occurred at the classic technological circuit of Unit 1 and the related remediation works do not have an adverse impact on the nuclear safety, the environment, the personnel or the population.
