The Bulgaria-Greece gas interconnector will be completed by July 2022, so that the Romanian BRUA pipeline will be able to receive Azerbaijani gas and LNG from Greek ports, said Energy Minister Virgil Popescu.

He met with Bulgaria’s energy minister on Friday as part of the Three Seas Initiative in Sofia.

“Today I had a working meeting with my counterpart in Bulgaria – Energy Minister Andrey Zhivkov, on the sidelines of participating in the Summit of the Three Seas Initiative in Sofia.

Discussions focused on future actions to strengthen bilateral relations between the two states, but also on future joint investment projects in the field of renewable energy (hydro and offshore wind), about increasing interconnection for electricity transmission.

At the same time, we received assurances that the Bulgaria-Greece gas interconnector will be completed by July 2022, so that the Vertical Corridor will be operational and Azerbaijani gas and LNG from Greek ports will be able to reach BRUA,” said Popescu.

Natural gas – transition fuel – infrastructure priorities for the region – was the topic of the panel that Virgil Popescu attended as a guest with Andrey Zhivkov – Bulgarian Minister of Energy, Andrew Light, US Deputy Secretary of Energy for International Relations, Piotr Naimski – Secretary for Strategic Energy Infrastructure in Poland, Teodora Georgieva of ICGB Ad, Greece and Jörn Schmücker – Vice President of Siemens Germany, at the Three Seas Initiative Forum in Sofia, according to the official Facebook page of the Ministry of Energy.
