Virgil Popescu, Minister of Economy, Energy and Business Environment today convened the Emergency Command at the level of the Ministry to sum up the measures to be implemented in the context of the COVID-19 epidemic, according to a release sent to energynomics.ro.

“We are considering all the ways we can provide, without interruption or syncope, the domestic customers with electricity and gas, trying to limit at the same time the interactions that are not absolutely necessary. Romanians need to know that there is no cause for concern: The National Energy System has the necessary stocks to operate under normal conditions, operates at optimum parameters, and production and distribution companies are prepared, have internal working procedures and have instituted protective measures for employees. As far as possible, I urge clients to use electronic and online payment tools during this period. At the level of the Ministry we have the Operational Center for Emergency Situations, and I ask the representatives of the energy companies to keep in constant contact with it and to announce if they have any difficulties,” said Virgil Popescu.

The Minister of Economy, Energy and Business Environment has sent representatives of energy companies to notify their employees that all the necessary measures are being taken to limit the spread of the virus. “It is important not to panic, to obey the instructions of the authorities and not to expose those around us to unnecessary risks,” said Virgil Popescu.

The meeting was attended by representatives of companies in the energy system, who presented the situation at the level of companies, respectively the working procedures and measures established to limit the spread of COVID-19. Emphasis was placed on the measures taken to limit contacts with the final consumer. The Minister of Economy also requested the maintenance of a permanent communication channel with the commanders for emergency situations and with the Public Health Directorates at the county level.
