US Nuclear Regulatory Commission has given its final agreement to the project of small modular reactors (SMR), a technology developed by the American company NuScale, in which Nuclearelectrica is also interested, according to e-nergia.ro.

NuScale Power said the NRC (US Nuclear Regulatory Commission) has completed the review of Phase 6 of the Company’s Application for Certification Application (DCA) for the company’s small modular nuclear reactors and that the SMR-small modular reactor is the first reactor of this type that receives approval from the NRC, writes PowerMag.

On August 28, NuScale announced that, once the DCA process is complete, “customers can proceed with the implementation of NuScale plant development plans, noting that the NRC has approved the security aspects of the NuScale project.”

The issuance by the NRC of the Final Security Assessment Report represents the completion of the technical review and approval process for SMR NuScale technology.
